The use of lead (Pb) in electronic manufacturing will be banned in Europe from July 2006. Virtually all manufacturers of electronic components and assembly process materials will have to convert to lead free. Intercole can help you take your product through the transition to lead free.
Lead Free Product Audit
Converting your product to lead free does not mean simply throwing out the old solder. At the same time it does not necessarily mean redesigning the product. Inmany cases, you simply need to re-qualify the Bill of Material (BOM). Determining which component to order is, unfortunately, not standardized in terms of specifying whether they are lead free. Research is required on a component by component basis to determine whether it is available in lead free packaging, what the component Part number should be, and which manufacturers offer the component as lead free. Sometimes it is a matter of specifying a new part number for essentially the same part. In some cases, the part number remains unchanged. Many parts already have been converted, and most parts that are intended to be lead free are scheduled to be lead free by the end of 2005. If a manufacturer states that a part number is not scheduled to ever become lead free, it is a good indication that the part will be considered obsolete by 2006 or sooner.

a) Lead free part numbers and manufacturers
b) Specific ordering procedures if applicable when the part number is unchanged but the procurement process needs attention
c) A time table for anticipated lead free conversion where the manufacturer has not completed conversion yet
d) Recommendations where lead free is simply not available in a direct drop-in replacement.
